Practically anyone can become a patient of the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University. Our clinics serve patients of nearly all ages, with varying medical considerations and dental needs. However, there are times when we are not a good match for a patient. In those instances, we will refer the patient accordingly.
If you are not a patient of record (existing patient), you are considered a new patient. Learn more about scheduling an appointment as an existing or new patient at the Kornberg School of Dentistry.
To make a new patient appointment in our student clinic, call 215-707-2900 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Walk-ins are also welcome, but please note, there may be a wait depending on the activity of the clinic at the time
If you’re not sure which clinic is right for your needs, please consult our clinic listing.
Your first appointment will consist of an initial dental evaluation to help determine your dental needs. Your medical history will be reviewed, a preliminary examination of your mouth (including an oral cancer screening) will occur and diagnostic radiographs will be taken. Following that appointment, your case will be forwarded to one of our four Comprehensive Care Clusters for assignment to a student-dentist.
Because of the restricted schedules of student-dentists and the time required for actual treatment, it is important that patients avoid canceling or breaking appointments if at all possible. If you must cancel an appointment, we ask for a minimum of 24 hours’ notice.
To cancel an appointment, please contact the clinic at which your appointment is scheduled. You can find a listing of clinic phone numbers in the Clinic Directory.
Please be mindful that after three broken appointments—including no-shows, no-calls and/or appointments canceled less than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time—you may not be allowed to schedule future appointments in the student clinic.
We are unable to provide free dental care. However, as an educational institution, fees in our teaching clinics are much lower in comparison to most private practices in the area.
Acceptable methods of payment include
Several discount plans are also available.
We are unable to provide free dental care. However, if you are accepted into the student clinic and have a flexible schedule, allowing for multiple appointments to complete a treatment plan, you will save approximately half the cost of what you would pay for treatment in a private dental practice.
Dental resident and postgraduate specialty clinic fees are considerably less than what the service would typically cost in a private specialty office. Fees charged in our faculty clinics are similar to those in private practice.
Student/predoctoral dentists are third- and fourth-year dental students overseen by experienced, licensed Kornberg School of Dentistry faculty members. Care provided by student-dentists costs considerably less than regular dental practices. The care can take longer and require more appointments, but it is the most affordable dental care option.
Resident/postgraduate dentists are pursuing further specialty training. Specialty areas include general dentistry, endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics and periodontics. Fees are higher than those charged in the student clinics, but still a fraction of that charged in private practices.
Faculty dentists are Kornberg Dental faculty members who provide care to patients in addition to teaching students and, in some cases, researching the latest advances in oral healthcare. They provide general and specialty care in a private-practice setting. Fees are similar to those charged in private practices outside the school.
Under the direct supervision of attending faculty, third- and fourth-year student-dentists provide general dental care (exams, periodontal cleanings, fillings, crowns, dentures, teeth whitening, implants, root canals, extractions, etc.) to patients.
Parking is available for a fee at the Ontario Street parking garage at Temple University Hospital, two blocks north of the School of Dentistry. Depending on the time of arrival, some metered parking may be available on Broad Street or in the immediate vicinity of the dental school.
Public transportation is conveniently located close to the school.
Kornberg School of Dentistry owns all dental records. Copies of your records and dental X-rays will be provided upon signed written request by you or your legal representative (parent, spouse, legal guardian, etc.). A nominal fee is charged for the duplication of records.
