At the 2018 Reunion and Alumni Achievement Awards, over 150 alumni and guests participated in the activities held May 4 to 5. On Friday, alumni enjoyed a cocktail reception and dinner at the Bellevue Hotel. This event recognized our reunion classes ending in 3 and 8, so alumni from the class of 1968 were recognized for their 50th reunion as well as alumni from the class of 1958 for their 60th reunion.
Several alumni were honored who have demonstrated outstanding service and contributions to dentistry and Temple with the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards. The following Alumni were recognized: Dr. William Dragan, Entrepreneurship; Dr. Sally Gray, Service posthumous; Dr. Ronald Gross, Leadership; Dr. Charles Mandell, Education; and Dr. Matthew Palermo, Service posthumous. Additionally, two alumni were recognized for the Dean’s Distinguished Courage Award: Dr. Jorge Blanco, and Dr. Ronald Silverman. The Class of 1964 also presented their $50,000 endowed scholarship, which will be used to help current dental students. This effort was spearheaded by Drs. Alan Simkins, Sam Cimino, and Gil Falcone.
Other activities over the weekend included a school visit where Dean Amid Ismail gave alumni an update on how the school has changed since they last visited and current students took alumni on a tour of the building. After lunch, alumni went to the annual White Coat Ceremony to watch second year students move on to clinical study. On Saturday, alumni visited the Barnes Foundation and explored highlights of the collection and learned the history of the Barnes while on a private docent tour.
