Dr. Roy H. Stevens (B.A., Adelphi University, 1969; M.S., Institute of Microbiology at Rutgers University, 1972, D.D.S., Columbia University, 1976; Certificate in Endodontology, University of Pennsylvania, 1985) is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Endodontology. Prior to his appointment at Temple, Dr. Stevens was Associate Professor of Endodontology at Columbia University, Research Assistant Professor of Microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania, and Lecturer in the Division of Endodontology at Albert Einstein Medical Center (Philadelphia). Dr. Stevens` research has focused on oral microbiology and has resulted in publication of numerous articles in such journals as Infection and Immunity, the Journal of Dental Research, the European Journal of Oral Sciences, Oral Microbiology & Immunology, and the Journal of Endodontics. Dr. Stevens has been the recipient of an NIH grant to study an oral bacterial virus, which he discovered, and has been a co-principal investigator on several others. He has been a reviewer for several journals, including Oral Microbiology & Immunology, the Journal of Infectious Diseases, Oral Surgery, and Endodontics and Dental Traumatology. Dr. Stevens has also served as a reviewer on NIH study sections. His current research interests include virulence-related, bacteriophage-mediated modifications of oral bacteria; endodontic infections; and extraradicular infections of endodontic origin.
