This program will focus on the relevance and benefits of current computer software and digital technology options for improving evaluation and treatment outcome of implant patients. We will discuss the role of computer software and associated digital technology in the improving communication between treatment team members (restorative dentists, surgeons, and dental laboratory technicians). The crown-down philosophies of implant positioning. Lastly, demonstration of the design process for CAD/CAM restorations, restorative material selection and it’s applications.

Upon course completion, you will:

  • Understand the role of team in the digital world, and the role to be undertaken by the surgeon, restorative dentist and laboratory technician.
  • Review and analyze appropriate information flow in digital dentistry chain and how to ensure effective information transfer.
  • Identify the clinical and laboratory benefits related to the incorporation of digital dentistry.
  • Describe how accepted treatment philosophies and protocols can be incorporated and preserved within the digital treatment chain.
  • Discuss the use of intraoral scanner, and identify the benefits associated with digital impressions compared to conventional impressions.
  • Utilization of surgical (guided) planning software, from data acquisition, to nerve detection, and implant placement planning preserving the prosthesis-driven philosophy.
  • Utilization and practice the use of CAD/CAM software to design the implant-supported interim restoration.

Dr. Bryan Harris

Dr. Harris is currently the Director of Advanced Education in Prosthodontics for the University of Louisville.  Bryan started in Dentistry as a fixed crown and bridge technician.  His interest in Dentistry grew and led him to pursue his DMD degree at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry (ULSD) where he graduated in 2004. He immediately pursued his Prosthodontic residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) where he focused on implant dentistry. While in residency he also earned his CDT credential in Crown and Bridge.  Upon graduation in 2007 Dr. Harris returned to ULSD as an Associate Professor in Oral Health and Rehabilitation.  In 2011 he helped establish the ULSD’s Advanced Education in Prosthodontics Program.  He served as Assistant Director until 2015 when he was selected as Program Director.  Dr. Harris maintains a part time practice limited to implant, fixed and removable Prosthodontics.  He is the author or co-author of 22 professional publications and has lectured before national and international audiences at the American Academy of Osseointegration, the California Dental Association and the ITI Symposium.
