Alumni Spotlight: Meet Dr. and Mrs. Leidich
Dr. Ray N. Leidich, DDS, DEN ’53 and Dolores K. Leidich, PHARM, ‘51, are two of Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry’s most generous contributors. The impact of their philanthropy can be seen throughout the school. In 2006, the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) clinic was named for Dr. Leidich and his wife Dolores (née Kupchinsky). Working in this clinic, Kornberg students learn the latest clinical techniques along with the highest ethical standards and compassion for their patients.
In addition to his philanthropic activities, Dr. Leidich has long been an active member of a number of boards, including: the Schuylkill County Industrial Development Authority, Schuylkill County Economic Development Corporation and Tremont Borough Planning Commission. The Leidichs have a particular interest in preserving historical records for future generations: they recently supported The Schuykill County Historical Society's efforts to digitize the archives of a local paper, The Miners Journal. He also served as a member of the Kornberg School of Dentistry’s Board of Visitors from 2010 - 2013, providing guidance and leadership for the School in that role.
Dr. Leidich has served both his community and nation in an exemplary fashion. After graduating from Temple Dental School in 1953, he spent three years in active Marine duty before he began practicing general dentistry in his hometown of Tremont, PA. Dr. Leidich served a great number of patients in the small Tremont community for more than 30 years before retiring in 1989. Additionally, he and his wife owned and operated the Tremont Pharmacy for many years.
Dr. Leidich knew very early on that he wanted to be a dentist, and that he wanted to study dentistry at Temple. Despite vigorous competition from thousands of returning World War II soldiers, Dr. Leidich was accepted to fill one of the 130 spaces in its incoming class of 1953. Education has always been important to Dr. Leidich, and his gratitude to Temple for giving him the opportunity to have had a successful career is what inspires him to give back so generously to his alma mater.
Dr. and Mrs. Leidich are esteemed members of the following Temple University Giving Societies, which honor the philanthropic efforts of the most generous and loyal donors:
- The Acres of Diamonds Circle, which recognizes the special contributions of Temple alumni and friends who have made planned gifts or have named Temple as a beneficiary in their will.
- The Conwell Society, which celebrates alumni, faculty, staff parents, students, and friends who sustain Temple’s educational enterprise through annual leadership gifts of $1,000 or more.
- The Chairman’s Circle, which recognizes the most generous of Temple’s benefactors, those whose cumulative giving to Temple University exceeds $1 million.
Additionally, in 2014 Dr. Leidich was awarded the Temple University Alumni Association Impact Award for outstanding contribution and support of Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry.
Standing as a superb example of Russell Conwell’s vision for Temple University, Dr. and Mrs. Leidich’s generous and loyal nature serves as an inspiration.
